1241JuneLouis IX announced that the County of Poitiers would go to his brother Alphonse – offending Isabella of Angoulême, whose son would have inherited the territory had the English won the Battle of Bouvines.
124220 MaySaintonge WarHenry III of England arrived with an army in support of Isabella's claim to Poitiers.
127025 AugustLouis IX died. He was succeeded by his son Philip III.
12855 OctoberPhilip III died. He was succeeded by his son Philip IV.
1297Louis IX was canonized by Pope Boniface VIII, and was from then on better known as Saint Louis. He is the only French monarch to be declared a saint.
